That’s why we think it’s essential to have a good repertoire of supercharged smoothies to kick-start your day. These 12 recipes have become our arsenal of ‘go-to’ breakfast options that we rely on time and time again when we’re on the run. They are fast, full of flavor, and contain all the goodness we need to feel energized and ready to tackle the day ahead!

#1 GINGER ANTI-INFLAMMATORY SMOOTHIE

Why We Love It
Ginger supports healthy digestion, which is an absolute MUST for vibrant health! The gentle spicy undertones of the ginger in this recipe are also naturally invigorating and get you energized for the morning.   • 1 frozen banana
  • 1-inch ginger grated
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Besides reminding us of a beachside holiday, we love this smoothie for its jam-packed nutritional goodness. Pineapple contains the digestive enzyme bromelain, which gives our body extra support to break down and absorb nutrients from the food we eat. This smoothie also boosts your daily intake of greens, providing folate, fibre and antioxidants for general vitality. To enjoy the taste of Summer and a post-holiday dose of wellbeing, start your day with this delicious drink!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup of spinach leaves
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tsp of Food Matters Recommended Greens
  • ¼ cup chopped pineapple
  • 1 frozen banana
  • ¼ cup coconut milk
  • 1 cup coconut water

What To Do
Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend until nice and smooth!

Firstly, we love this recipe because it features a nutritional hero… the humble banana! This common fruit supports good mental health due to its high levels of tryptophan. #4  THE CARROT CAKE SMOOTHIE

Why We Love It
This smoothie is knock-your-socks-off downright delicious. It’s so tasty that we would be equally happy to enjoy it for dessert! Importantly, this recipe is also bursting with nutrition and supplies a good hit of vitamin A, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, and essential amino acids. (Plus, you can tell the kids they’re eating cake for breakfast!)

Ingredients
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 small organic carrots
  • 2 tbsp organic chia seeds
  • ¼ cup organic rolled oats
  • Splash of preferred milk
  • 2 tbsp organic yogurt
  • Pinch of shredded coconut
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 pecans or walnuts
  • 1 tsp maca powder (optional)
  • 1 – 2 Medjool dates (optional)

What To Do
  1. Blend all of the ingredients minus the coconut, cinnamon, pecans and 1 tablespoon of the yogurt until smooth.
  2. Pour into a jar and top with remaining tablespoon of yogurt and sprinkle with cinnamon, shredded coconut and pecans. Enjoy!

This recipe offers the luscious flavours inspired by an authentic mint chocolate ice cream – only with a bounty of nutrition to boot! The fresh mint is packed full of bioavailable antioxidants and the cashews supply slow-release energy to sustain us through the morning. But don’t just whip this one out for breakfast… Try a smaller serving next time you have a chocolate craving!

Ingredients (to serve 2)

  • 1 peeled and frozen banana
  • 1 bunch of English spinach leaves or frozen spinach
  • ¼ cup organic nut butter
  • ½ avocado, peeled and stone removed
  • Handful of mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract (or vanilla pod)
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ½ cup coconut water
  • Handful of ice (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons raw cacao nibs

What To Do:
  1. Place all the ingredients except the cacao nibs in a powerful blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Add the cacao nibs and blend for another 5 – 10 seconds.
  3. Pour into tall glasses and enjoy the minty green goodness!

Ingredients
  • 1 espresso shot of Longevity Now coffee
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 dates

What To Do
  1. Grind fresh coffee beans and make a shot of espresso.
  2. Combine coffee, coconut milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and dates in the blender and whiz until silky smooth.

What To Do
Combine all ingredients into a blender and pur é e until nice and smooth.

#8 TURBOCHARGE SMOOTHIE RECIPE

Why We Love It
This recipe was initially inspired from a trip in Dubai to help get Food Matters into the Middle East. A local friend recommended the ‘Turbo Charge’ with Spirulina and who were we to disagree? Upon returning home, we’ve made this amazing drink many times ourselves, and think it’s one of the best smoothies we’ve ever had!

Ingredients
  • ¼ cucumber
  • 1 sticks celery
  • ½ small pineapple
  • Handful of spinach leaves
  • ¼ lime, peeled
  • 4 golden delicious apples
  • ½ ripe avocado
  • 1 heaped teaspoon of Spirulina powder
  • Small handful of ice

What To Do
  1. Juice the cucumber, celery, pineapple, spinach, lime and apples.
  2. Place juice and Spirulina in a blender with avocado and ice and blend for 45 seconds.
  3. Pour into a glass and enjoy! As per usual, everything should be as fresh and organic as possible.


#9 WALNUT BROWNIE BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE

This recipe is the ultimate proof that healthy can still taste phenomenally delicious. With maca powder for help balances your hormones and healthy fats to support reproductive health, this smoothie is decadent but deceptively good for you!

Ingredients
  • Approx. 1.5 cups almond milk
  • 1/3 cup (20g) walnuts
  • ¼ avocado
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao
  • 2 heaped teaspoons maple or rice malt syrup (or sweetener of choice, to taste)
  • 1 heaped teaspoon raw cacao nibs
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of vanilla powder (or essence)
  • Pinch salt

What To Do

  1. Leave half the walnuts and cacao nibs aside. Throw the rest of your ingredients into the blender and blend until really smooth.
  2. Top with the cacao nibs and remaining walnuts.
  3. I would recommend making this the night before or, at least, half an hour before serving to allow the chia seeds to soften.

What To Do
  1. Blend everything, except the raw cacao nibs.
  2. Once the smoothie is nice and smooth, add in the cacao nibs and give it another blend. We like to keep a little crunch in these and think it’s nice to sprinkle some on top! Enjoy.
