8 Food Matters Approved Gluten-Free Muffin Recipes (Sweet & Savory)

Rachel Morrow RACHEL MORROW

We love making muffins. The combinations are endless and they make the best quick and healthy snack to have on hand.

Sweet or savory, they can pack a nutritional punch. We love baking with gluten-free flour options and replacing refined sugar with more natural options or omitting completely to use fruit as our sweetener. These 7 gluten-free recipes are all quick, easy and use some of our favorite ingredients:

1. Raspberry, Coconut & Banana Muffins

Gluten-free muffins can be dry and let's face it slightly tasteless, but not these ones - they are deliciously moist and so flavorful! The raspberries give them a slight tartness that works so well with the sweetness of the bananas. I always bake these if I'm going to a kids party, they are super easy to make and go down an absolute storm with both adults and kids. As they're only sweetened with a little maple syrup, it is brilliant to know that this party food is not only great for the taste buds but is also great for your health too.

2. Gluten-Free Blueberry Muffins

These high protein blueberry muffins are practically a meal in itself and are lovely for breakfast on the run served with your favourite cup of tea or long black. Each muffin has just over 7 grams of protein which will help fill you up, keep blood sugars stable and support a healthy metabolism.

3. Banana, Date & Walnut Muffins

These muffins are so delicious. They’ve got the flavor profile you’d find in a banana cake, with none of the nasties that are going to derail your health goals. Oh, and did we mention they’re a perfect grab-and-go snack for work or school lunches?

4. Quinoa & Kale Muffins

Two of our favorite health foods? Yes please! These muffins are to die for and make the perfect snack for any time of day. You'll want to make double of this batch!

5. Chia Rhubard Apricot Muffins

If you live somewhere where there is a wider variety of fresh fruit, by all means, use what you’re growing in your backyard or what’s available at your local farmer’s market instead. And just so you know, these muffins are sugar-free so they are not cupcakes in disguise. Don’t expect some super-sweet, dessert-like bomb to come out of your oven! These are healthy, real, whole-food muffins that you will not find at Starbucks (that’s a good thing).

6. Veggie Frittata Muffins

These frittata muffins are my solution to a longstanding problem: all the best grab-and-go breakfasts are sweet. Don’t get me wrong, banana bread, scones, chia pudding, and breakfast cookies are all delicious. But if you’re anything like me, sometimes, you’re craving a savory breakfast, and you don’t have time to cook eggs. You wish that there was a tasty, protein-packed option that you could take with you as you headed out the door. Enter: this frittata muffin recipe.

7. Flourless Bite-Sized Breaky Muffins

These grain-free, kid-friendly muffins are packed with fiber-rich chia seeds and contain only a couple of tablespoons of natural sweetener! The almond butter base gives them a deliciously nutty flavor, and overripe bananas lend an extra sweetness.

8. Double Chocolate Protein Muffins

Guilt-free chocolate muffins that you can feel good about eating. This vegan-friendly recipe is oil-free, rich in flavor, and fluffy. They are a much healthier alternative to a cafe-style muffin and taste just as delicious! A high fiber, protein-packed snack that the whole family will enjoy, especially the kids.

Now you've had the ultimate crash course in muffin making, what are you going to be baking first?
