Rachel Morrow RACHEL MORROW

Smoothies are a wellness goldmine! There’s no doubt that we love having them as part of our daily routine.

They’re one of the fastest ways to get a whole range of nutrients into your body through one simple meal and keep you feeling full for longer IF you are building your smoothie with the right building blocks.

One of the key ingredients to include to ensure your smoothie will keep you feeling satisfied for longer is protein. Protein isn’t just for those post-gym muscle gains, it is fundamental in many day-to-day functions beyond building muscle.

Starting your day with protein can be one of the best ways to set yourself up for the day and help you to feel full and satisfied giving you more consistent energy throughout the day.

And because smoothies are one of our favorite go-to breakfasts, we’ve put together a list of some simple protein sources that will also give you a bonus boost of fiber and fats - That’s what we call a smoothie triple treat!

Hemp Seeds

The health benefits of hemp seeds are also impressive thanks to the high variety of nutrients they contain, including vitamins, minerals, a great fatty acid profile, high amounts of fiber, and, most importantly, their high content of protein. The perfect addition to your morning smoothie!

Nut Butters

Adding in 2 tablespoons of nut butter to your morning smoothie will not only help give it a delicious flavor and creamy texture, but it will also boost the protein and healthy fats. The combination of healthy fats and protein will keep you feeling satiated.

Avocado

Because when isn’t it a great time for avocado? Another addition that has that super special combination of healthy fats, fiber, and protein! Try freezing in small chunks for an easy throw in ingredient, this will also make your smoothie so creamy!

Nuts and Seeds

Nut and Seeds are another little powerhouse nutrient bomb to add into your smoothie! Add a handful to a jar and water the night before to help activate and reduce phytic acid, rinse them off in the morning and throw them into the blender for your smoothie!

Yogurt

If you are someone that can digest dairy, adding in some yogurt is a great way to boost protein. Aim to choose organic, plain greek yogurt.

Protein Powder

A natural, wholesome and minimally processed protein powder is guaranteed to boost the protein content of your smoothie. Not all protein powders are created equal so do your research and choose a product that doesn’t contain any added artificial flavor, color, sweeteners or fillers. You can find great organic grass-fed whey protein or plant-based varieties that are natural and delicious!
